Introduction:

Our client, a plastics manufacturing company in China, is seeking a General Manager for their Shanghai factory. The role involves overseeing all operational responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct, and manage daily operations of the manufacturing plant, focusing on production output, product quality and timely delivery.
  • Oversee the supply chain, including raw material importation, stock management, shipment and customs clearance.
  • Supervise quality control, Environmental Health and Safety, Human Resources and other related activities.
  • Manage all department heads and supervisors, with some departments reporting to the headquarters in Europe and Hong Kong (Sales, New Product Development, Finance and administrative staff).
  • Build and maintain a trusting relationship with the team, recruit and hire new employees.
  • Respond promptly to customer needs and build strong relationships with them.
  • Optimize company performance, implement continuous improvement initiatives and maintain control over products and processes.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following and enforcing standards and procedures, and complying with legal regulations.
  • Take full responsibility for safe production and safety-related tasks.
  • Hold all legally required certificates for the role and act as the companys legal representative. This includes safety production knowledge and management certifications from the Shanghai Emergency Management Bureau for hazardous chemical production units.
  • Act as the main contact with local government agencies like fire, police, customs, and health and safety authorities.
  • Stay updated on legal requirements, set relevant policies, procedures and systems, and ensure their implementation.
  • Be accountable for Profit & Loss results.
  • Prepare and execute the annual budget, including capital expenditures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related field.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Knowledge and expertise in safety production and handling hazardous materials is a plus.
  • Holding or having held a safety production and management certificate from the Shanghai Emergency Management Bureau for hazardous chemical production units is an advantage.
  • Previous experience in a multinational company is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the plastic industry is preferred.
  • Proven leadership experience as a plant manager or similar role in manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of local regulatory compliance for plant operations.
  • Solid knowledge of business and management concepts like budgeting, planning, cost control, KPIs, resource allocation and HR.
  • Excellent technical skills.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety, quality, productivity, inventory and stewardship procedures.
  • High sense of duty, teamwork and integrity.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.
  • Willingness to work overtime
