Introduction:

Provide leadership and oversight for the First Article Inspection (FAI) function, including direct guidance and supervision of the FAI Foreman and inspection team. Ensure adherence to AS9102 standards across all FAI processes. Assume responsibility for the evaluation, authorization, and issuance of complete FAI documentation packages. Serve as the final decision-maker for FAI disposition and acceptance status. Act as the central point of contact among Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams on all matters related to First Article Inspection.

Responsibilities:

  1. Direct, mentor, and oversee the day-to-day operations of the FAI team and FAI Foreman.
  2. Organize and allocate FAI activities based on production requirements, project timelines, and customer delivery expectations.
  3. Evaluate and authorize:
  4. Component-level FAI documentation
  5. Assembly-level FAI documentation
  6. Ballooned engineering drawings and inspection records
  7. Ensure all engineering characteristics, including dimensions, tolerances, materials, and special process requirements, are accurately identified and verified.
  8. Interpret and validate aerospace engineering drawings, technical specifications, and customer-defined requirements.
  9. Monitor and ensure conformity with AS9102 requirements, including Forms 1, 2, and 3.
  10. Partner with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to address FAI discrepancies, technical concerns, and implementation challenges.
  11. Maintain robust documentation practices, ensuring data integrity, traceability, and audit preparedness.
  12. Adhere to company policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  13. Participate in customer, certification, and internal audits as the designated FAI technical authority.
  14. Establish, enhance, and standardize FAI processes, documentation templates, and operational best practices.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  2. At least 5 years of experience in aerospace manufacturing, quality assurance, inspection, or related disciplines.
  3. In-depth understanding of AS9102 standards and First Article Inspection methodologies.
  4. Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS), including AS9100 and/or ISO 9001.
  5. Demonstrated capability to analyze and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T requirements.
  6. Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
  7. Exceptional precision, attention to detail, and commitment to quality, particularly in relation to FAI approval activities.
  8. Strong ownership mindset with a high degree of accountability and sound judgment.
  9. Proven leadership capabilities, including team guidance, coaching, and performance support.
  10. Proficient English communication skills, both written and spoken.
