Introduction:

The Port Crane Manager is a critical leadership role responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation and maintenance of all crane assets within the port facility. This position oversees a team of crane operators, technicians, and supervisors, ensuring optimal crane performance to support continuous cargo handling operations. The successful candidate will drive operational excellence, implement best practices in safety and maintenance, and contribute significantly to the port's productivity and profitability. This role requires a strong focus on technical expertise, team management, and adherence to international safety and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities:

Operational Overall:

  1. Plan, organize, and direct the daily operations of all port cranes (e.g., Quay cranes, Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes.
  2. Optimize crane deployment and utilization to maximize cargo throughput and minimize vessel turnaround times.
  3. Monitor crane performance metrics (e.g., moves per hour, uptime, downtime) and implement corrective actions as needed.
  4. Collaborate with planning and operations teams to align crane activities with overall port schedules and priorities.

Maintenance & Reliability:

  1. Develop and implement comprehensive preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for all crane equipment.
  2. Oversee a team of crane technicians and external contractors to ensure timely and high-quality repairs and overhauls.
  3. Manage spare parts inventory for critical crane components, ensuring availability and cost-effectiveness.
  4. Analyze equipment failures and implement root cause analysis to prevent recurrence and improve reliability.
  5. Stay abreast of new crane technologies and recommend upgrades or replacements to enhance efficiency and safety.
  6. Safety & Compliance:
  7. Champion a strong safety culture among all crane personnel, ensuring adherence to all port, national, and international safety regulations e.g., OSHA.
  8. Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments for crane operations and maintenance activities.
  9. Investigate all crane-related incidents and near-misses, implementing corrective and preventive measures.

Team Leadership & Development:

  1. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of crane operators, technicians, and supervisors.
  2. Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
  3. Foster a collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork and continuous improvement.
  4. Manage staffing levels, scheduling, and labor relations within the crane department. (Both Day & Nightshift)

Budget & Cost Management:

  1. Develop and manage the annual budget for crane operations and maintenance.
  2. Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or efficiency.
  3. Manage contracts with suppliers and service providers for crane parts and maintenance.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in port operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role directly managing crane operations and maintenance.
  3. In-depth knowledge of various types of port cranes (Quay crane, RTG) and their mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  4. Proven experience in implementing and managing maintenance programs (CMMS experience preferred: MAXIMO).
  5. Strong understanding of international maritime and port safety regulations and best practices.
  6. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  7. Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and control costs effectively.
  8. Proficiency in English, Thai.
  9. Computer literate with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities e.g. Excel, Power BI.
