Introduction:

Yarn Purchaser (Cotton Specialist) - Malaysia Textile Mill Location: Senai, Johor, Company is a leading global textile and apparel manufacturing and supply chain manager, committed to innovation, quality, and sustainability. They are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Yarn Purchaser with strong cotton knowledge and expertise to join their dynamic team at their Textile Mill in Senai, Johor, Malaysia. This is a critical role responsible for sourcing and procuring high-quality yarn, with a particular focus on cotton varieties, to support the manufacturing operations and ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant supply.

Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Sourcing & Procurement: Identify, evaluate, and select reliable yarn suppliers globally, with a strong emphasis on cotton yarn (e.g., conventional cotton, organic cotton, BCI cotton, recycled cotton, various counts and blends).
2. Market Analysis: Conduct continuous market research to stay updated on cotton yarn trends, pricing, supply chain dynamics, and new material innovations.
3. Negotiation & Cost Optimization: Lead negotiations with suppliers to secure the best possible terms, prices, and delivery schedules for yarn purchases, actively seeking cost reduction opportunities.
4. Vendor & Contract Management: Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with existing and new suppliers. Manage vendor performance, ensure adherence to technical agreements (TAs) and Master Service Agreements (MSAs), and track KPIs for quality, delivery, and compliance.
5. Quality & Compliance Assurance: Work closely with internal Quality Assurance (QA) and R&D teams to ensure all procured yarn meets Ghim Lis stringent quality standards and relevant industry certifications (e.g., GOTS, OCS, BCI).
6. Inventory Management Support: Collaborate with production planning and warehouse teams to ensure optimal yarn inventory levels, preventing stock-outs or overstocking.
7. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the key link between suppliers and internal departments (e.g., Production, Planning, Design, QA, R&D) to ensure all yarn needs are met timely and without quality issues.
8. Problem Solving: Address and resolve any supply chain issues, quality discrepancies, or delivery delays in collaboration with internal teams and vendors.
9. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate procurement records, prepare reports on purchasing activities, cost savings, and supplier performance.
10. Compliance & SOP Adherence: Ensure all procurement activities adhere to company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and industry compliance standards.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Textile Technology, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

Minimum of 5 years of dedicated experience as a Procurement Specialist or Purchaser, specifically in the textile or apparel industry.

Proven, in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in sourcing and procuring various types of cotton yarn (e.g., conventional, organic, BCI, recycled, different counts/blends) is essential.

Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent vendor and contract management abilities.

Proficient in RFI processes and cost reduction strategies.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multiple internal departments and external stakeholders.

Familiarity with supply chain software and ERP systems is a plus.

High level of integrity, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality.

Adaptable and flexible to manage change in a fast-paced environment.

Fluency in English; proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia and/or Mandarin would be an advantage to communicate with local and regional suppliers.
