Introduction:

Banking/Finance - Project Finance

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation of the ESG Management System and ensure regular review of the ESG Manual and Policy in alignment with industry trends.
  • Drive the adoption of the Climate Guiding Principles, establishing efficient monitoring systems for climate-related actions.
  • Oversee the execution of the Development Impact framework, fostering a track record of impact within the portfolio companies.
  • Coordinate engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including investors, NGOs, civil society organizations, and industry bodies.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with potential investors alongside the Senior Director of Strategy and Investor Relations.
  • Support fundraising efforts by targeting 'green capital' investors and expanding shareholder relationships.
  • Manage the Corporate Social Responsibility program and internal climate impact monitoring.
  • Ensure efficient data-gathering processes for ESG, Climate, and Sustainability reporting.
  • Oversee monitoring and measurement of ESG metrics, supporting investment professionals with ESG duties.
  • Conduct site visits to portfolio companies, providing support, training, and evaluating progress.
  • Assess project lead sponsors ESG capabilities and advise investment teams accordingly.
  • Manage third-party consultants for ESG due diligence and monitoring.
  • Support investment proposal evaluations and negotiations to embed ESG standards.
  • Monitor portfolio company compliance with internal ESG policies and address incidents promptly.
  • Ensure disclosure of key ESG information to relevant stakeholders, including the Board.
  • Drive internal ESG skills development and capacity building through training initiatives.
  • Compile Sustainability, Climate, and ESG Reports for the shareholders as required.

Requirements:

  • Essential Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum 18 years of experience in Environment, Sustainability and Governance, Climate, and Sustainability fields in Africa or other Emerging Markets.
  • Senior management experience within a relevant finance institution or public/private organization in the financial services industry.
  • Strong connection to Africa and commitment to an Africa-focused career.
