What can we expect in 2023?

Welcome to the first edition of the Gemini Newsletter for 2023, and from all of us here best wishes for success and prosperity in the year of the rabbit!

Over the last few years Hong Kong has definitely experienced more than its fair share of challenges, dealing firstly with the protests, then with COVID-19 and then with the fallout as many people decided to leave Hong Kong for various reasons. This of course impacted the recruitment sector, but it is good to see now how both clients and candidates are bouncing back…2023 promise to be a great year and we are looking forward to it.

The overall recruitment market is once again growing, and now that the COVD restrictions have been mostly removed we see the pace of that growth increasing especially in sectors such as Tech, Finance, Travel and Hospitality. As your talent management partner for over 40 years, we are well placed to take advantage of this as we have such a depth of candidates on our database. If you are looking to add to your talent pool in any way please let us know.

One area that Gemini is especially proud of is our strength in the HR Consulting market, where we can help organisations to structure themselves in the right way and both find new talent and support the outplacement of others.

I look forward to meeting as many of you in person as I can over the coming weeks and months, and if there is anything I can do please let me know!

Hong Kong Salary Survey

The dip in the total workforce number in Hong Kong – approx. 119,000 - has had a big impact on companies. Despite the Top Talent Pass Scheme’’ (introduced in 2022) there is upward pressure on Hong Kong salaries generally, especially in certain sectors such as tech/IT and aviation.

Almost half of Hong Kong jobseekers are expecting salary rises of 15-20% or higher when they change jobs, and Hong Kong employers are having to dig even deeper to attract and retain the best talent.
