Introduction:

The R&D Development Specialist (Diversification) will be responsible for research and development, technical analysis and quality control support in the technical department, primarily for products related to markets which are new or emerging as of 2021.

Responsibilities:

Job Duties:

• Assist in developing the culture of the R&D group and the broader team, in order to foster a culture of collaborative innovation in the company.

• Drive the technical development and capability building of to enable entrance into new markets.

• Staying abreast of new developments in raw materials, equipment and industry best practices to maintain a superior competitive position in the market.

• Design and development of new products in accordance with the principles of the stage gate system and in collaboration with stakeholders.

• Establish product specifications for newly developed products in consultation with key stakeholders from QC and manufacturing teams.

• Monitor the product quality and processing conditions of production scale trials and initial manufacturing runs, providing technical advice if deviations occur.

• Collate feedback on new products from customers and internal teams, for future developments and refinement of new or existing product range.

• Support the production of marketing materials for newly developed products.

• Participate in searching for new raw materials in order to enable new products, improve existing products or reduce raw material cost.

• Supervise/work with Development Chemist(s) regarding raw material testing, product development and other activities to enable the above job duties.

• Support/work with Pilot line Operators for product development activities and sample request for customer trials.

• Support Equipment calibration and maintenance

• Writing procedures to support the ISO standard and creation of new or maintenance of existing test methods.

• Any reasonable duties assigned from Research & Development Manager.

Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS:

1.Education:     

• Bachelor Degree (4 years in University) or Master degree in Science or Engineering, majoring in Organic Chemistry / Analytical Chemist / Polymer Science / Chemical Engineering or similar relevant field.

• Certification in LEAN/Six sigma would be an advantage but is not required.

2.Experience field:          

• At least 4 years’ experience in plastics/polymer industry, with experience in the masterbatch / compound formulation development, chemical development or application development in at least one of the following topic areas, with the expectation to be able to leverage the knowledge in the formulation of masterbatch products:

o Flame retardants for polymers (polyolefin or engineering thermoplastics)

o Functional additives in engineering thermoplastics.

o Functional additives for bioplastics or a comprehensive understanding of common bioplastic materials.

o Experience in other technical areas not covered by Ampacet’s current product portfolio would also be considered, including experience in emerging technologies or novel applications.

• Experience in masterbatch production, compound production and the formulation of grades would be a strong advantage but is not required.

• Experience working at a downstream plastics converter would be an advantage but is not required.

• Experience as a supervisor or other leadership role would be an advantage but is not required.

3.Other requirements: 

• Excellent communication skills, including at least intermediate English skill.

• Ability to negotiate with and positively influence others.

• A driven, self-starter personality.

• Ability to self-educate and creatively problem solve.

• Ability to take a broad, strategic overview and engage stakeholders & team members in thinking about issues in wider context.

4.Special physical examination requirements:
